I agree with Gill. Not sure of the ramifications on your mom if the girl decides to tell the Dubs to go and pound sand. Could be rough for her.
But... when I was 17 I think it would have been awesome for someone to have, not given advice, but listen to me in a non-judgemental, therefore non-JW way.
Ask her if she wants to grab some coffee, or caramels for you Good Will Hunting fans, and see what she says. Let her talk as much as she will, reassuring her that what is said is private and you were interested because you were in the same boat at her age.
Regardless, good for you for wanting to help out someone else. Hopefully she'll see that the world is actually an awesome place and you don't have to live in fear, all the freakin' time.

What Should I Do???
by dottie inmy mom, a jw, tells me of her friend from the kh(who i know pretty well, nice lady) whose daughter has decided to move out with a "worldly" guy.
she is only 17 and has some post secondary education ahead of her (her parents are quite supportive of the education just not the "outsider" b/f).
more of a "know of her" scenario.. my mom told me that her parents have told her that if she is going to see this guy that they have to set an example for her 4 younger siblings and she would have to decide between the family or the guy...basically if you want to be with him you have to leave.

I love my saturdays......
by freedomlover ini woke up this morning and made coffee and we are planning on eating a big breakfast and then doing a hike to a waterfall where we can play in the water and pick wild blueberries.
it got me thinking how wonderful it is to have my weekends to myself now.
when i was a dub i would skip out on service a lot but the whole day was ruined for me because i'd feel guilty for not going out in service.

We're going to our friend's baby's baptism this morning. A truly joyous occasion. Not one person there will discuss Armageddy!
We're gonna play music, dance and eat BBQ brisket, cabrito and deer sausage; potato salad, beans, corn bread, jalapenos, pecan pie, blueberry cobbler and last but not least, as much Big Red Sodie Water as we can stand.
You have a great day as well. Thanks for reminding me of the way it "used" to be and, more important, the way it "ain't" any more. -

My promised whining thread...
by james_woods ini just got back from family court last wednesday.. my mother aged 81 (an ex jw by the way) has an advanced case of altzheimers.
she still knows us and can converse with you, but is becoming increasingly irrational because of the dementia inherent in this disease.
she had been wandering off from her house and getting caught just walking down the street in 5:00 traffic several times in recent months.

Any Dubs in your Hall that were puportedly "Demonized"?
by Sailor Ripley inwe had a whole family that moved into our congo when i was about 10. they had kids from 6 to 16-years-old.
there was always talk of their beds spinning and shoes floating, et cetera.
they lived in a literal shack so i didn't want to go there to spend the night, but i always wanted to go and "check it out" to see some fireworks.

Okay, group... much better stories! ...but alas, no floating beds yet. I'm going to call someone, that will still speak to me, and find out what else went on with the "demonized souls" in my congo.
Restrangled,
I know your pain. Doing something wrong/perceived wrong and then something weird happening is a crappy feeling. I used to feel I was being punished for stupid stuff too. My first, ahem, "encounter" with a chick obviously ended rather quickly and while I showered, to get Satan off of me, my cassette player stopped. I had on Houses of the Holy by Zeppelin. I looked at the counter and I'll be damned if it didn't stop on 666. Whooo, whooo. I think I threw up too.
I really hated feeling bad all the time, never living for the day; always for the New Freakin' System... my a$$
Keep 'em comin'. I am having a great time reading your stories. -

These stories are way too logical. Where are all the people that have demons? As a kid, I remember hearing so many stories of demonized shat everywhere. It's perplexing how so many people can whole-heartedly believe so much crapola for so long.
There has to be at least one person on JWD that's seen a bed float... Surely! C'mon. Don't tell me I have to go to a Worldy [sic] site to find actions of the paranormal. -

I've changed my mind due to some other posts.
To borrow from you, LittleToe, I have only one (hyphenated) word to say to that: "handsaw-rack". -

Okay, cool. So there are stories... Did anyone of you actually see any of these "demons" or this paranormal activity? If so, any in Central Texas? I'd love to go and see some just for the hoot of it.
I didn't believe it then and probably don't now but I sure would love to see something float.
If, at least, we can go and drink Bourbon then that'll be cool too. I'll bring all my Eagle's albums and my ELP, Brain Salad Surgery. Remember the Medusa/Predator-like chick once you folded open the tabs? ...oh and a couple of Styx albums and we'll be all set.
Totally off topic, but there was a dude/dad/elder in my congo that said that all the bad things he had done were due to Rock and Roll. He took the radios out of his cars so the demons couldn't get to him. I should mail him a cassette tape of Havohej, this crappymetal band. -

Anything like that happen in your congo? -

Red flags
by beautifulisfree inwhen i was an active witness i never understood why there were 'annointed' women that would be ruling right beside god and helping rule over the whole earth.
but, they were not allowed or good enough to be 'elders' and just rule over a tiny little congregation.
i know now this should have been a red flag for me...but, i just thought oh well this scripture says that men are to be the head of woman.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind. A great movie, but we as kids were told by this old sister that Jehovah is the 1st kind, Jesus is the 2nd kind and Satan is the 3rd, so you kids don't need to watch that Demonized business.
What a load of crapola. -

What Would You Tell A JW That Believes That Terrorism Means "The End"?
by minimus ini can only picture what we can expect to hear from our witness family.....any thoughts?
?

All the Dubs I now think it's "Always" the End. Anything else is simply ancillary.
Besides, it makes me physically ill to talk about "The End" with the RoHos. Sometimes I just figuratively roll up in a ball and writhe in pain when I think about it. I've got too much livin' to do for "The End."
